Single stem or several cylindrical stems. Never in clumps.
Spines: white, yellow, brown, reddish, or black.
Flowers: yellowish-green to dark-red or brownish. On the sides, midstem.
Fruit is size of a small grape, green and later turning a purplish-red and spiny.
Range is a narrow band stretching from the Big Bend of Texas and Mexico to southern New Mexico.
El Paso habitat: mainly in the Franklin Mountains.
